While still ‘playing catch-up,' more women are in pipeline to biggest associations Hackett Bailey Hortum Karen Hackett was a rarity when she became CEO of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2003—a woman heading a major medical society. Today she can point to female colleagues running very large organizations for dermatologists, osteopathic physicians, dentists and more.
